On two separate occasions, the team were able to reunite a stolen car with its owner in less than 24 hours. These vehicles had a keyless start feature, which thieves can exploit using a device that mimics the key’s wireless signal. This form of theft can be prevented through the use of a Faraday bag, which blocks the key’s wireless signal. The incredible response time was possible due to our regular patrols, which provide us with the necessary local intelligence to tackle issues efficiently. The team have a new ward priority, which is the Avondale Estate. This priority was chosen by attendees of the ward panel meeting, who voiced growing concerns about frequent ASB in the area. While it is evident to us that these issues are occurring, there is, unfortunately, a significant lack of reports being made to the police by residents. Reports play a vital role in our methods of solving crime. If you have concerns about reporting, I suggest using alternative services such as Crimestoppers, which is completely anonymous.
Lastly, the team have continued to maintain a strong presence at Northfield House, conducting stop and searches and clearly sending the message that the communal garden areas are for local residents only, with zero tolerance for ASB in the area. We believe this has been an effective approach that is having a positive impact.
I hope you're keeping safe and I look forward to hearing from you on Met Engage or at the next ward panel meeting!
The ward panel meeting will be held online using teams at 6:30pm on 26th November 2025. In the meantime, if you wish to contact the team in confidence to discuss any issues or concerns that you may have, we can be contacted at: SNTMD-.OldKentRoad@met.police.uk
